What is Colon
Hydrotherapy?
Colonic hydrotherapy or irrigation is a gentle internal
bath using warm, purified water that can help to eliminate stored fecal matter,
gas, mucus and toxic substances from the colon. A practice dating from around
1500 B.C., colonics can also help tone and hydrate the colon.
However, colonics have a much broader effect than simply
cleansing the colon.
Additional benefits can often be observed throughout the
body in the form of clearer skin, more energy and mental clarity, fewer
headaches, improvement in circulatory, immune and weight problems and many
other positive side effects. Often people are referred to colonic practitioners
by alternative medicine therapists including: chiropractors, homeopaths,
acupuncturists, herbalists and naturopaths.
How does a
colonic work?
Your visit to a colonic therapist will involve the
taking of your case history followed by an explanation of the procedure.
- You relax in a prone position on your back, undressed
from the waist down, yet covered by a sheet for optimum privacy.
- You take a small, sterile rectal tube and privately
insert it in your rectum, so that the pure water can enter.
- The water flow, which you control, loosens the
waste.
- You eliminate waste naturally, at your own pace, into
the “reclining toilet” built into the table. Like the
ebb and flow of ocean waves on the sand, this process is repeated many times
during a session. (Sessions last approximately 45 minutes, during which
you are practicing the art of release… literally!)
This process is facilitated by a certified Colon
Hydrotherapist, and involves little or no discomfort. The Colon
Hydrotherapist:
- Provides a clean and safe environment for the
session.
- Assists you with the control of the flow and
temperature of water that is regulated throughout the session.
- Provides Abdominal Massage and emotional
support.
- Complimentary Aromatherapy.
- Answers any questions; before, during and after the
session.
How do I know I
need a colonic?
Toxic bowels cause a host of health issues. Since colon
irrigation may remove toxins from the body, while restoring the body to better
functioning, most people reap benefits from colonics. A colonic may be
particularly valuable if you suffer from:
- Abnormal Body Odor
- Abdominal Discomfort
- Aches/Pains/Stiffness
- Bad Breath
- Candida Overgrowth
- Coated Tongue
|
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- InsomniaIrritable Bowel
- Constipation

Will a colonic
clean my small intestine?
No. There is a valve separating the small intestine from
the large intestine (colon) called the Ileocecal valve. It is a one-way valve,
allowing chyme from the small intestine to go into the large. Once it has
passed through this valve into the colon it can't go back into the small
intestine.

How long is the
large intestine (Colon) and what is its function?
The anatomy of the colon extends from the ileocecal
(small intestine) valve to the rectum. It is 5-5 ½ feet long and is 2-2
½ inches in diameter.
The colon’s function is to:
Store undigested food and waste
Absorb some nutrients and water Form
stool with the aid of colon flora Excrete stored material
(feces)
What is
Auto-Intoxification?
When we do not eliminate our waste, toxins back up in
our bodies and can create auto-intoxification or self-poisoning. This occurs
when the colon walls become encrusted with fecal matter that has not been
eliminated. This hampers the absorption of vital nutrients. Worse yet, old
accumulated matter in the colon provides a breeding ground for unhealthy
bacteria. Blood capillaries lining the colon wall begin to absorb toxins into
the blood stream, which feeds all of our bodily functions and set the stage for
serious health problems.
Will I lose Good
Bacteria?
No. We only use purified water and it won't wash away
good bacteria, just like taking a shower doesn't wash away the bacteria on your
skin. Most people don't have the good bacteria in their colon because of
stagnant, foul, old fecal matter making the colon uninhabitable for the good
bacteria. Colonics aid in getting rid of the bad yeast and bacteria so the good
bacteria can flourish.
How many bowel
movements should I have daily?
As many times as you eat, or anywhere from two to three
times per day. They should be from 1-1/2 to 2" diameter and 5 to 10" in length.
They should float, be light in color, and break apart when you flush. Fecal
matter should not have a foul smell. You should not have to strain or push. If
you have diarrhea, loose stools, or back and forth hard then loose, your colon
could be out of balance. Colonics could aid in restoring balance and tone to
the colon. A bowel movement should follow 2 to 3 hours after each
meal. Most people have 1 bowel movement daily. If you are eating 3 meals
a day and move your bowels once a day, your body is storing. Experts report
that people carry 3-8 meals in their small and large intestines at any given
time due to a sluggish digestive system.
Will I lose
weight?
Maybe. Just bear in mind that you lose
“wastes” only, not fat or cellulite. If you start eating less,
increase your fiber intake, move more, chew better and drink more water, then
you will achieve weight loss.
What will I
feel like after the treatment?
Most people feel renewed and rejuvenated, everyone is
different. Most report that they feel clarity and more energy. We have found
that people who seem very toxic feel tired after their treatment. Sometimes
rest is needed. And that is okay. When we clean house we get a little dirty.
The end results are always better than when we started.
Can I have a
colonic if I am having a period?
Yes you can. Please make sure you have a spare tampon or
towel that you can use immediately after the treatment. We suggest waiting to
have a colonic until heavy cramping has subsided.
Can I have a
colonic if I am pregnant?
Colonic are not advised and are a contraindication
during the 1st and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. A doctor’s authorization
is mandatory.
How soon after
the childbirth can I have a colonic? Can I have it while I am nursing?
You can have a colonic 3 months after a regular
childbirth, unless you had complications, a caesarean or you are breastfeeding.
You need to decide for yourself whether your body has recovered enough from
childbirth.
Will I be able
to drive home after the colonic?
Most people do not find it difficult to drive back after
their colonic treatment. This can be discussed at the time you book your
appointment. |
